Things to Know About Transfer Cases

Transfer Cases for Performance VehiclesIf you have a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle, then your vehicle has what is called a transfer case inside of it. Transfer cases are sometimes called transfer gear cases or transfer gearboxes, and they are part of what allows you to put your vehicle into four-wheel drive in an instant. They are one of the main components in a four-wheel drive system, and they need to be working properly to allow you to use your vehicle’s full four-wheel drive capabilities.

4-Wheel and All-Wheel

The transfer case in a four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle is connected to both the transmission in the vehicle and the front and rear axles. Driveshafts maintain the connection between both. When you are driving your vehicle, your transfer case takes the power that is created by your transmission and moves it to your front and rear axles seamlessly. Some transfer cases use a complex set of gears to carry out this process, but most of the transfer cases on the market today rely are chain-driven. In most cases, you have the ability to put your vehicle into four-wheel or all-wheel drive whenever you need it.
