Common Transmission Problems

Your vehicle’s transmission is a vital component that needs to be working efficiently at all times. Unfortunately, there are many things that can go wrong with your transmission, some that you may not even notice at first if you don’t know what to look for.

At SCS Gearbox, we want to ensure you always have properly working parts for your vehicle, which is why we’re here to provide you with a few tips when it comes to transmission problems. The following are a few of the most common problems that you should be on the lookout for.

Transmission Fluid Levels

Let’s start with the most common problem. Low levels of fluid in your transmission can lead to a number of issues, but luckily it’s an easy issue to correct in most cases. However, simply adding more transmission fluid isn’t going to solve all of your problems. There is likely a reason why your transmission was low in the first case, including a leak in the seal or driveshaft. If you notice your transmission fluid levels are consistently lower than they should be, you should have it inspected. If the fluid in your transmission is low you will typically begin to notice your vehicle’s gears slipping or changing slower than usual.

Jammed Clutch in Transmission

Another issue related to the transmission is a jammed clutch. If the clutch jams, then there may be an abnormal amount of transmission fluid leaking into the torque converter. In this case you will most likely notice your vehicle is shaking occasionally, and your engine may not be putting out as much power as usual.

These are just a couple of the major issues you may encounter with your vehicle’s transmission. For more vehicle maintenance tips, keep checking back with the team at SCS Gearbox!
